An exciting opportunity has arisen at London Irish Rugby Club to join our experienced performance team. We are looking to recruit an assistant sport scientist to assist with the sport science provision of our first team and senior academy programme. 

Role Summary

The successful applicant will assist in the provision of sport science support for the first team and senior academy squads within the London Irish programme. This will be achieved through the understanding and implementation of best practice sport science that enhances decision making processes regarding the management and preparation of players for optimal performance as well as providing insights for future practice. The successful candidate will work alongside performance support staff, bringing innovative ideas and industry leading sport science services to drive performance. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist in the collection, analysis, and reporting of all sport science data (incl. GPS, Force Plates, Daily Wellness). 
  • Lead the collection of instrumented mouthguard (iMGs) data and subsequent analysis 
  • Assist with investigative projects to improve our day-to-day practice and drive performance. 
  • Assist in the collation of injury surveillance data and management of objective recovery management processes. 
  • Assist in the collection and presentation of strength tracking data for performance optimisation strategies. 
  • Update the RFU Injury Audit training log. 
  • Maintain an awareness of the latest sport science and technological developments to ensure up to date relevant best practice is embedded in our programme. 
  • Maintain CPD and take an active role in the performance departments CPD programme. 

Essential Criteria

  • BSc Sport Science or equivalent 
  • Strong operational ability of Microsoft programmes, well organised with excellent attention to detail and excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively within a multidisciplinary team. 

Highly Desired Criteria

  • MSc Sport Science or equivalent 
  • Experience of working within elite sporting team, with detailed knowledge of, and experience in, the use of data collection technologies such STATSports, Vald Forcedecks, Hamstring Solo.

  • Sport Scientist, Head of S&C and Head of Performance.
