Facundo Gigena joined London Irish as a free agent in February 2021 following his release from Leicester Tigers midway through the 2020/21 Gallagher Premiership season.

The loosehead prop, who hails from Argentina, represented his country at under-18 and under-19 levels, and competed in the Junior World Championships in 2013 and 2014 whilst playing with Tala in the Torneo de Córdoba.

Gigena went on to play for Jaguares in Super Rugby and made his senior international debut against Chile in 2016, scoring a try as part of a 87-12 victory.

In January 2018, Gigena made the switch to Premiership Rugby, linking up with Leicester Tigers and making 45 appearances for the club.

Gigena went on to make 10 appearances for London Irish after joining midway through the 2020/21 season and was rewarded for his form with a call up to the Argentina squad for their summer fixtures.

The following campaign, Gigena made an impressive 21 appearances in green, featuring in all but the opening round of the Premiership Rugby Cup tournamament as well as four appearances in the EPCR Challenge Cup. 

He earned another call-up to his international set-up in Argentina, with boss Michael Cheika selecting the prop in a select Argentina XV to tour Europe in July 2022.
