London Irish Women’s inaugural Talent ID Day last weekend proved to be a glowing success.

Under the watchful eye of Graham Smith, who will lead the on-field development of the Women’s team, ex-England Women’s Sevens captain Abi Chamberlain, and coaches Richard de Jager, Roy Headey and Marie Scanlan, approximately 50 players were in attendance at Hazelwood.

The day aimed to unearth the next generation of talented female players looking to pursue a pathway into elite sport with the soon-to-be launched Irish Women’s Premier team - and Smith was excited about the talent on show!

“It was a tremendous success” he said, “it really did exceed all expectations on the day.

“There is a great pool of talent out there and we saw that first-hand with some of the rugby on show.

“Days like this are hugely important for the long-term future of the game, not just for London Irish, but for the growth of the women’s game in general.

“We’re excited about what we saw, but this is just the beginning - there’ll be more days like this for the stars of the future to put their hand up in the coming months.”
