On Thursday 30 January, Washington Irish RFC visited London Irish as a part of their 40th anniversary celebrations.
Founded in 1980, Washington Irish RFC are a Division I and III men’s club in the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union of USA Rugby.
On a tour of England and Wales, the club came to the Hazelwood Centre, the home of London Irish, for a morning of tours, Q&A’s and a training session, ending with a presentation and exchange of commemorative club plaques.
With over 30 players, family and friends, the morning started off with a tour of the Hazelwood facilities. With a trip to the changing rooms, gym and outside pitches, Washington Irish got a chance to see how Hazelwood is utilised and how the London Irish players spend their training days.
Following that was a presentation, informing them of the history of London Irish, as well as current exciting events in the club’s calendar, like the big move back to West London to the Brentford Community Stadium.
A mid-morning training session followed with an hour of intense rugby led by London Irish coaching staff on the facilities’ 4G pitch.
London Irish was delighted to host Washington Irish and look forward to staying connected in the years to come. We wish the club all the very best for the remainder of their tour and hopefully see you again soon!
