The London Irish community team hosted the second of their three festivals for the 2018/19 season at the weekend. Designed for the U13 and U14 age groups, the annual festival was a great success once again, hosted at the Hazelwood Centre on Sunday 17 March.

19 teams entered the U13 tournament, showing their rugby skills to the impressed crowds that included London Irish Academy players Ollie Hassell-Collins, Caolan Englefield, Jack Cooke and Izaiha Moore-Aiono.

When the dust settled, the final came down to a hotly anticipated clash between Rosslyn Park and Chichester. A worthy contest that saw both teams inseparable with the match heading into extra time. It was a moment of magic to win the contest as a Chichester youngster grabbed an interception to sprint clear, score and take the contest.

The U14 tournament also lived up to expectations, with all the teams displaying great teamwork and determination in each fixture.

Stockport and St Peter’s reached the final and the close encounter saw Stockport emerge as champions.

“It was a fantastic day with lots of high-quality rugby on show” said Ben Goldie, community rugby coach.

“There was a tremendous amount of effort put in by each team. Congratulations to Chichester and Stockport for winning their respected tournaments.”
