London Irish host Bayonne in round 2 of the European Challenge Cup tomorrow afternoon at Madejski Stadium, with both sides looking to record their first win of the competition.
Bayonne come into the match off the back of the 13-20 defeat against Toulon, whilst Irish lost narrowly at Parc Y Scarlets.
“It was one of those games that could have gone either way, we were in the game until the last minute really, so it was disappointing not to get more than the losing bonus point.” Said London Irish centre Tom Stephenson.
“Bayonne lost away at Toulon, but they have been going very well in the Top 14 after being promoted, like ourselves, last year. They are confident and they will come to the Madejski tomorrow positive and I’m sure it will be a good game.”
The Top 14 is a physical competition, and Stephenson is expecting an abrasive contest when the two sides collide.
“They are a big team and will want to play on the front foot, we can expect a lot of off loads and play from anywhere, as you would expect of a French team, so will have to be on the ball tomorrow.
“We have looked at them a lot this week and know what they are capable of so will be prepared for that.”
