London Irish Academy fly-half Theo Smerdon has today confirmed his retirement from professional rugby.
Smerdon has called time on his young career following medical advice.
“Everyone at London Irish wishes Theo all the very best for the future,” said Declan Kidney, Director of Rugby.
“It’s disappointing to see Theo’s career halted so early, but health comes first. Theo will have the full support of the Club going forward and will always be welcome at Hazelwood.”
"Theo arrived from Yorkshire and didn't know anyone when he came to the Club," said Patrick O'Grady, Academy Manager.
"He gained the respect of his peers quickly because of how he went about his business on the training ground and how he carried himself as a person."
“I have really enjoyed my time at London Irish and everyone has been so helpful since my move from Yorkshire,” explained Smerdon.
“I am obviously gutted to be retiring at such a young age, but I know that there are still exciting opportunities for me away from rugby.
“Thank you to everyone that got me to this point in my career and a special thank you to my family, who have supported me in every step of my journey.”
