There is now less than a week to go until London Irish take on Gloucester Rugby on Sunday 20th March (kick-off 3pm) at this season’s St Patrick’s Day Game at the Madejski Stadium and we are delighted to announce that the GAA will be part of our big day!
St Anthony’s GAA Football Club, Reading, will be hosting a community stand in the Supporters’ Village giving juniors the chance to find out more about Gaelic Football and how they can get involved as well as hosting a demonstration game with their U10s on the pitch at half-time.
St Anthony’s GAA Football Club has been established since 1963 and has both Men’s and Ladies Gaelic football teams, both of which compete in the London leagues. Their players hail from all over Ireland and the club is very proud of its "happy family" atmosphere. They welcome girls and boys aged 5 to 14 to its friendly, inclusive club, regardless of background or ability level. Youth team chairman, Bart Ballantine, says “playing Gaelic football can help your child with hand to eye co-ordination, and build their self-confidence in a friendly and relaxed environment. The children really respond well to the different aspects of the game, especially the choice of being able to use their hands or feet to control the ball”. The club also have regular social activities, including family fun days throughout the season, and their barbecue events are always popular with children and grown-ups alike!
