Spelthorne Borough Council has been working with London Irish Rugby Club to give the Borough’s Meals on Wheels customers some thoughtful treats this Christmas.
On Wednesday 11 December, Exiles stars Theo Brophy Clews, Scott Steele, Blair Cowan and Motu Matu’u were on hand to spread Christmas cheer to the community with goody bags and cards as well as sitting down to talk with residents using the Fordbridge Centre.
Cllr Maureen Attewell, Spelthorne Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing, said: “Christmas can be an especially lonely time of year for elderly residents so it’s nice to be able to brighten someone’s day. Meals on Wheels provides a vital life line for residents who can’t provide their own meals, ensuring they receive a hot nutritious meal while remaining independent in their own homes. My thanks go to the Meals on Wheels team who provide an excellent service and always go the extra mile for their clients. I would also like to thank London Irish Rugby Club for their kind donations; they regularly support us and it is very much appreciated.”
The Spelthorne Meals on Wheels team deliver hot tasty and nutritious meals up to seven days a week. They can bring you a main meal and a pudding and you can also add a sandwich to have later in the day. Frozen meals are also available for weekends and Bank Holidays for those who find it difficult to cook but are able to heat a meal. The Fordbridge Centre (based on Clarendon Road, Ashford) is incredibly popular with those who use the service. The centre has been so successful that we have submitted a planning application to build an extension in order for us to accommodate more people. The centre offers a wide range of activities throughout the year to help keep the body and mind active plus hairdressing, day trips and much more. After Christmas they will be providing free mince pies on 27, 30 and 31 December. The centre can be contacted on 01784 243880 or via email on [email protected].
