The chance to play at Twickenham does not come around too often and London Irish skipper George Skivington has called for his side to rise to the challenge at the London Double Header.
The Exiles strut out at Twickenham for new Head Coach, Tom Coventry’s, first London Double Header on Saturday 28 November against Wasps following Saracens match against Worcester Warriors.
Skivington insists that the Exiles can create special memories for supporters this time around.
“You get to play at Twickenham and it’s one of those exciting events so the London Double Header is an experience that everyone cherishes. There’s always a great vibe and London derbies are always great fun because there’s a little bit of pride at stake,” he said.
“Some of us have played a fair few times now but I know the boys who haven’t will be wanting to impress. The hype and excitement before the match is special.”
Former Chiefs Assistant Coach Coventry is well underway in his rebuilding job at London Irish and Skivington says that important groundwork is being laid down.
“There have been some really good influences from other environments, which is a good thing to have at this stage of our development,” added Skivington.
“All of the boys have bought into the system and culture so far, and we’re trying to get ourselves into a position where our home ground is not the nicest to play at and ‘respect’ is a key word for us.”
