Second row Ed Scragg has joined Sydney University on loan, the Club can confirm.

Scragg joined London Irish in preparation for the 2022/23 season from Championship side Cornish Pirates and will now head to the Southern Hemisphere to further his experience with Sydney University, before returning to the Exiles.

The lock is set to make his debut for the Australian side in the Charter Hall Shute, Sydney’s Premiership Club competition, against Norths Rugby.

Scragg will return to London in time for the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

“This is a great opportunity for Ed to pick up valuable game time in a new environment,” said Declan Kidney, Director of Rugby.

“Ed has a lot of rugby ahead of him in his career and I’m sure this loan spell will benefit him and London Irish in the future.”

“I can’t wait to get started in Sydney. It’s a great opportunity to test myself and I look forward to developing my game,” said Scragg.

“Hopefully I can come back to London Irish with some good experience under belt.”
