Lovell is proud to be supporting the inaugural London Irish Women ‘Ride for Rugby’ cycling challenge.
Hosted by London Irish Women RFC in partnership with construction training charity Building Heroes, the event has been created to highlight and champion the roles of women in both sport and the construction industry, whilst raising much needed funding to support opportunity, training, and development.
With only 100 days to go until the main event, taking place on 17th July 2022, the event will see cyclists follow a 30- or 60-mile circuit around the Surrey area, starting and finishing at Hazelwood Centre, the home of London Irish Women RFC.
All profits raised from the event will be invested into London Irish Women and their charity partner, Building Heroes, supporting Women in Sport and Women in Construction initiatives. London Irish Women will continue to fund player programmes to create a sustainable and inclusive community. One such programme is an elite rugby development pathway for women and girls, to include a bid for place in the Premier 15s by 2023. Money raised for Building Heroes will support the charity to continue its work supporting female veterans with a new career in the construction industry; training and equipping them with a broad range of trade skills before connecting them with a network of employers.
Abi Chamberlain, former England 7s Captain and International Player is the Academy Head Coach at London Irish Women, she said “I’m excited to take part and represent on the Ride for Rugby”. “Any event that champions opportunity for Women and grows that support network for Women to access more diverse career paths, on and off the sporting field, is something I am very pleased to be associated with.”
Molly Willerton, Assistant Design Manager at Lovell is just one of many individuals signed up to take part in the fundraising challenge. Ahead of the event she said, “I am really looking forward to taking part in the Ride for Rugby challenge. Aside from it giving me a good excuse to get out on my bike, it will also mean I am playing my role in supporting more women to follow career paths like mine within the construction industry.”
London Irish Women RFC, Lovell and Building Heroes look forward to promoting Women in Sport and Construction in this Ride for Rugby. For information on how to register and get involved go to Ride for Rugby - Sign up NOW! Sunday 17 July 2022.
