Full-back Tom Parton was pleased to come out on the winning side in Saturday’s thrilling high-scoring match against Bath Rugby.
In a unique game that had four yellow cards and two red cards, the Exiles secured a 36-33 bonus point win over the West Country outfit.
“It was a crazy game. It’s not easy being a London Irish fan, is it?” laughed Parton.
“Look, we’re delighted to get the win - that was the target at the start of the game.
“Of course, there’s a lot for us to look back on and learn from, but the win was the most important thing.”
The opposition enjoyed some good periods of possession at the Brentford Community Stadium and Parton was happy with how the team reacted to the challenges that Bath Rugby presented.
“They had their moments of momentum, in the first 15 minutes especially, and we just had to ride it out.
“We fired a few shots back - and it went back and forth throughout the entire game after that really.
“That’s rugby, you know it’s going to swing to and fro, but thankfully we came out on the right side of it.”
The Round 15 result sees London Irish return to winning ways after losing to Sale Sharks in the previous round, and Parton was delighted at the reaction from the players following the disappointing result in Manchester.
“Last weekend was an off day for us - but to bounce back as we did says a lot about the character of this group of players.
“We learned our lessons, we showed character to get a win - another win at home - and anytime you get five points in this league, it’s a good thing.”
