On this day 18 years ago 75,000 supporters flocked to Twickenham to see London Irish take on Northampton Saints in the Powergen Cup final.

Most of the packed stadium were supporting the Exiles and the players didn’t let them down, racing into an unassailable 24-0 lead at half-time. Five tries in total saw Irish secure the win 38-7.

A brace of tries for Geoff Appleford and Justin Bishop, one for Michael Horak and 13 points from the boot of Barry Everitt secured the victory and saw one of the great days in the club’s history.
