London Irish HITZ have continued their excellent work within the community, this time through pupil Oliver Cook.

Oliver managed to secure a lucrative opportunity to gain work experience at the OXBO restaurant in the Hilton Bankside hotel and has relished the variety of tasks required.

“So far, I have worked in the preparation section at OXBO” explained Oliver.

“I clean, peel and cut lots of different vegetables and get to see some food that I’ve never seen before! It’s been great fun to learn new things”.

“My proudest moment was when I got to serve Ainsley Campbell, the London Irish HITZ officer, and chef Paul Bates”.

Under the guidance of award-winning head chef Paul Bates, Oliver has been commuting to the London based hotel every Friday to prepare himself for his chosen career after the completion of the HITZ programme.

“The work experience has been fantastic for Oliver’s personal development” said Ainsley Campbell.

“Oliver has been a hard-working pupil who has settled in well to life in the kitchen. He has flourished under the guidance of Paul Bates and we have seen big improvements from Oliver in the classroom environment as a result”.

“Thank you very much to head chef Paul Bates for making this possible."

The London Irish HITZ programme provides exit routes into colleges, apprenticeships and full-time or part-time work.
