London Irish brought the BT Sport cameras to Tadley RFC this week for the Rugby Tonight on Tour programme.
Rugby Tonight on Tour aims to showcase the work that Premiership Clubs are doing in the community and it was great to be able to talk about London Irish’s partnership with Tadley RFC on the show.
The Tadley RFC first team were treated to a coaching master class from Ugo Monye and Topsy Ojo which concentrated on the team’s agility and high ball skills. They then tested their tackling with the Rugby Tonight Smash-o-meter. Always a crowd favourite, to the club’s delight, Tadley RFC topped the Smash-o-metre table!
The London Irish Community team and the young members of Tadley RFC worked on passing skills showcasing the next generation of rugby players to the BT Sport cameras. And a special appearance from London Irish mascot, Digger, made sure that the younger members of Tadley RFC had a memorable night.
Topsy Ojo took on the Tadley initiation challenge and three of the four club founder members, Frank Jose, John Thomas and Roy Mears were interviewed by Sarra Elgan. Along with Mike Jewell, the founders started the club with just £5 each and it has gone from strength to strength.
‘We are a growing club and to be associated with London Irish is amazing. We have a great partnership with the London Irish Community team and for them to bring BT Sport to Tadley has created an amazing buzz,’ Craig Raymond, Tadley RFC First Team Coach.
The Tadley crowds were on electric form, ensuring that the BT Sport crew would never forget the day they filmed at Tadley RFC and thanks must go to the club for hosting a great evening.
London Irish’s next home game is against Leicester Tigers on Saturday 7 October. Adult tickets from £23 and U13s from £3 from www.lidirect.co.uk or call 0118 968 1016.
