London Irish’s summer camps are going from strength to strength, with 218 under-7s to under-14s taking part in seven camps so far this summer.

London Irish first team players Tom Smallbone and Richard Palframan have been down to see the youngsters at two of the camps.

Smallbone, who is back in training following lengthy injury lay-off, met more than 40 youngsters at the Henley RFC camp with the prop taking part in a Q&A as well as giving advice to the budding stars of the future.

The two-day course, which marked the first of 15 London Irish camps to be held in conjunction with Premiership Rugby this summer, aims to enhance the confidence and self-esteem of youngsters.

Community manager Alastair Lawrance said: “We have been impressed with the high skill level and enthusiasm of all of the youngsters involved.

“To have Tom Smallbone in attendance was the perfect way to kick-off what promises to be an exciting summer of rugby camps.

“The youngsters really enjoyed meeting Tom and they quizzed him on a range of topics during the Q&A with questions ranging from what subjects he took during his GCSE’s, to his weekly training regime.”

Further camps will take place throughout August at Basingstoke RFC, Dauntsey’s School, Alton RFC, Tilsley Park Abingdon, Testbourne Comm School, Tadley Tigers RFC and Hampshire Collegiate School.
