The first of its kind, the HITZ Party 2019 was hosted by the London Irish HITZ at Hazelwood Centre in Sunbury-on-Thames.

Pupils from a variety of HITZ programmes, including Harlequins, Bath, Exeter, Wasps, Worcester and Bristol, ventured to the London Irish training facilities to take part in a day of activities aimed to create lasting memories for the participants.

“The main aim of the day was to bring together as many HITZ teams as possible for a day of enjoyment” said Ainsley Campbell, London Irish HITZ officer.

“All the students have worked extremely hard, so it was a chance for them to play some rugby and take part in some exciting activities.

“Hopefully this can be a catalyst for more events like this one!”

The participants were treated to a talk from Reece Riley, a former HITZ pupil, who is now working for the RFU. Reece spoke about his experiences in the HITZ programme and how his life has changed as a result.

The pupils were split into two groups for the afternoon as they underwent different workshops. The groups completed a specialised workshop based around mental health, then were put to the test by the Royal Navy through different testing activities.
