London Irish is delighted to announce that it has launched a London Irish Girls Rugby Academy in partnership with Bishop Wand School.
The London Irish AASE (Achieving Academic and Sporting Excellence) scheme has been running for over 10 years for boys in years 12 and 13, to give them the opportunity to follow their rugby aspirations alongside academic study at St Paul’s Catholic College (2019/20) or Bishop Wand School Sixth Form (2020/21).
Following the success of the AASE programme, London Irish are thrilled to have launched a scheme aimed at girls. It will be one of only four of this kind of programme for girls in London and the South East, combining academic studies with an elite training programme, including strength and conditioning and nutritional support.
The programme will develop and support young female rugby players alongside their club commitments.
There are 26 places available and first intake of the London Irish Girls Rugby Academy will be made up of year 12 students for 2020/2021. The girls will compete in the AoC Leagues and cup competition, and at local and national Rugby 7’s events including Rosslyn Park.
