The London Irish Foundation was pleased to be chosen by Active Surrey to be its partner in the delivery of a successful holiday activities and food programme for local children during July and August.

The programme, part of a government sponsored initiative delivered through local authorities, is designed to provide children from disadvantaged families with free food and enriching activities during school holiday periods.

Inspired by footballer Marcus Rashford’s campaign to provide less privileged children with opportunities to improve, the programme encourages children to eat more healthily and be more active.

During the three weeks based at Ashford Youth Club, the children took part in creative arts and crafts activities, were introduced to a range of sports including cricket, football, rugby and table tennis and were fed nutritious hot meals at lunchtimes.

Commenting on his experience of delivering the programme at Ashford, London Irish Foundation Inclusion Officer, Ben Nutt, said: “The camps were enjoyable and rewarding for all concerned. It was good to see new sports and other activities being learned and friendships being formed.

“Thanks to Active Surrey and Saputo we were able to send the children off at the end of each week with ‘goody bags’ including t-shirts, water bottles and books.  On behalf of the Foundation I would like to thank Active Surrey for inviting us to partner with them in the delivery of the programme.”
