The London Irish Community team has today announced that they will be partnering up with Southwark Tigers RFC to help grow the sport of rugby in the local area.
The aim of the new partnership is to help captivate young people and give them an opportunity to try their hand at rugby.
“This is a really exciting opportunity for Southwark Rugby Club and all the young people who will benefit from this partnership” explained Chris Callaway, Southwark Rugby Club Community Manager.
“Our community project has been running for five years and this is the missing ingredient that will take the programme to the next level.
“Many of the young people in our area have never played or watched a game of rugby before, which means that we have to focus on the basics and ensure the sessions are enjoyable.
“Sessions are starting in September, and the hope is that by March, we can get participants playing competitive contact games.”
The London Irish Community team have delivered very successful Rugby Camps at Southwark RFC and are now delighted to be delivering in the local area all year around.
“We are excited to be working with Southwark Tigers and help built on the great work already provided in the community in schools in inner London” said Mathew Heeks, Head of Community at London Irish.
“The opportunity to be involved and grow rugby in this area is fantastic and we can’t wait to get started!”
