London Irish Academy Golf Day

Friday 21 June saw the 17^th iteration of the London Irish Academy Golf Day at Ealing Golf Club, with all proceeds raised directly supporting the club’s Academy.

The annual event, which saw all entrants enjoy a full Irish breakfast before teeing off, had 34 teams enter, the most of any Academy Golf Day.

“We had 136 Golfers going out and this golf day has been full for the last seven weeks” said London Irish President Mick Crossan.

“At least 80% of the participants return year after year, so the support is fantastic. Ealing Golf Club really set themselves up for us on this day. The course is always in magnificent condition, and today we have had a glorious day for golf. The course is in pristine condition so a big thank you for everyone at Ealing Golf Club for what they do.  As much as this is a big day for us, it is a big day for the golf club as well.”

To complement the golf, there were two halfway houses along the course serving draughts and lagers and the 14^th hole provided a taste of Italy’s finest cheeses, meats and wines.

Every year the London Irish Academy Player of the Year award is presented, and this year’s recipient of the James Naughton Memorial Trophy was Ben Loader. The trophy was presented to Ben by James’ father John Naughton.

Ben joins of long list of players who have gone on to receive this award. “The players that have won of Academy Player of the Year Award over the years, the Armitage brothers, Shane Geraghty to name a few. Ben Loader has won this year’s award which is fantastic.” Crossan continued.

“We know the great history London Irish has of bringing young talent through and this Academy Golf Day really help in continuing the success. It’s a fantastic event and we get great support every year, and in doing so, raise good money and awareness of our Academy.”
