Two academy products were in action for their loan clubs this weekend as Jacob Atkins (Redingensians RFC) and Rory Brand (Rosslyn Park) both put in strong performances.
Skills coach Paul Hodgson gives his verdict on the duo:
Jacob Atkins
“Jacob put in another impressive showing on the weekend with the boot, recording five out of five kicks at goal. That takes his seasons tally to 29 out of 31, which puts him at a 94% success rate and emphasises how strong this area of his game is.
“As well as his goal-kicking, his all-round kicking game was outstanding on Saturday. In particular, his kicks from hand to gain his team territory were impressive in what was a tight game which Redingensians lost 25-24 to third place Bishop’s Stortford.”
Rory Brand
“Rory Brand scored in Rosslyn Park’s narrow loss to Hull Ionians at the weekend, 16-14. I was particularly impressed with his line breaks, emphasising his vision and ability to snipe around the breakdown.
“In addition, Rory scored another try which continues his try-scoring form this season and will give him confidence going into next week.”
England U20s
We would like to take this opportunity to wish our four academy products good luck when they train with England U20s this week in the shape of Joe Cokanasiga, Rory Brand, Theo Brophy-Clews and Tom Parton. This is a great achievement for the club and it emphasises the strength of our academy.
