Bagging a brace of tries in a 36-12 bonus-point win over Richmond last weekend, London Irish back-row Blair Cowan admits his side need to maintain their focus for the full 80 minutes.
Cowan, who was speaking to LITV following the game, scored two first half tries to put the Exiles in the ascendancy, but a sloppy second half showing yielded two Richmond scores.
“After we stretched our lead in the early part of the second half they [Richmond] didn’t capitulate and they came back fighting,” said Cowan, 30.
“A lot of teams in that situation could have faded away, but they stuck to their guns and came back with two tries from mauls – full credit to them and I think they will cause a few upsets this year,” he added.
With two wins out of two on the board, the Scotland international back-row insists building momentum will be key this term.
“We’ve got to continue to improve week by week and create an identity for ourselves,” said Cowan.
“If we keep working hard and look to improve on certain aspects of our game, then we will get to where we want to be,” he added.
