London Irish winger Ben Ransom is relishing the prospect of going toe-to-toe with his former club Bedford Blues when the two sides collide on New Year’s Eve (kick-off 2pm).

Ransom, 24, had a stint on loan at Bedford whilst contracted to Saracens during the 2012/13 season and the predatory finisher admits the experience of Championship rugby is serving him well.

“We had a few of the Sarries boys playing at Bedford during that season, and I had a great time there,” said Ransom, who tops the club’s try-scoring charts this season.

“However, I’m now with London Irish and my focus is on helping the club return to the Premiership,” he added.

Now donning the green of Irish, Ransom is determined to build on the good start his side have made to the season and end 2016 on a high. Christmas Eve’s 26-20 victory at Richmond, albeit not one for the rugby purists, was Irish’s 16th win in a row.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here at the club so far and the boys have been very welcoming,” said Ransom, who made the switch to Irish last summer.

“I’m enjoying my rugby and it’s been great to get on the end of a few tries which is always good as a winger,” said Ransom.

Turning his attention to Bedford, Ransom added: “Bedford have a good set-up and the brand of rugby they play is exciting, so it’s not going to be an easy game by a long-shot.

“As we experienced down at their place back in September, they are a side that like to throw the ball around and they will relish coming to the Madejski Stadium - it will undoubtedly be a tough test.”
