Summer signing Gordon Reid came off the bench to play his part in Scotland’s 34-13 victory over Italy in Singapore on Saturday.

The 30-year-old former Glasgow Warriors prop was a blood injury replacement for Allan Dell on 19 minutes, before coming back on 15 minutes into the second half.

In the gruelling humidity of Singapore, Scotland ran in five tries through Ali Price, Tim Visser, Ross Ford (2) and Damien Hoyland to give new Head Coach Gregor Townsend a winning start.

“I’m very pleased with the win and as a coach if you know that there’s a few things to work on and you win the game, then you have to be very pleased,” said Townsend.

“We knew it was going to be tough in the conditions and I was very pleased with the effort of the whole squad.

“It wasn’t a perfect performance, but the guys kept working hard and to get the breakthrough before half-time gave us a big boost.”

Reid and his Scotland teammates now travel to Sydney to face Australia in the second match of their summer tour on Saturday 17 June.
