Whilst London Irish’s England Under-20 heroes were clinching the Six Nations title, Josh Basham and Harry Butler were going toe to toe for England and Scotland as the two under-18 side’s clashed at Preston Grasshoppers RFC on Sunday.

Both Academy players started the game, with England running out 31-17 winners in difficult conditions at the Grasshoppers’ Lancashire home.

Leading 12-7 at the break thanks to tries from Joe Tunney and Aaron Hinkley, further scores from Tom Hardwick, Cameron Redpath and Tom Seabrook sealed an impressive victory for the Red Rose.

Scotland registered two tries including Butler crashing over in the first half from close range to give the hosts food for thought at the interval.

Academy Manager Patrick O’Grady has been pleased with the duo’s progression following on from their rugby education at the club’s Hazelwood training complex.

“It’s great to see Josh and Harry being recognised for their good form with a call-up to their respective national teams,” said O’Grady.

“They have been working very hard in training and their inclusion at the weekend is testament to their professionalism.”
