London Irish director of rugby Declan Kidney spoke of his disappointment not to get more out of his sides trip to West Wales last Saturday, in a match they narrowly lost 20-16 to Scarlets.

The Exiles did manage to secure a losing bonus-point which leaves the side third in Pool 2.

“It was disappointing not to get a result. We were well in it for the whole 80 minutes so just need to build on our belief in ourselves as a squad” said Declan Kidney.

A Steffon Hughes try in the second half was all that separated the teams, and with 25 minutes to go, Kidney’s side were still in the contest and looking for opportunities to win the match.

“I suppose that is what makes it so disappointing, the fight is great, we are staying in it and we are doing so much of what we said we would do. It’s just to learn to finish that and, that is part of the progress for this squad to make.”

Round 2 this Saturday sees the visit of Bayonne to Madejski Stadium and a good opportunity to perform in front of the club’s supporters.

“It will be good to get back on the bike after tonight, we have an away point from this game, but we will have to regroup, learn from today and put that to good use next week as we have done all season so far.”
