Charlie Morgan, rugby union reporter of The Telegraph, was named ‘London Irish Rugby Union Journalist of the Season’ at a ceremony held at the Brentford Community Stadium this afternoon (Monday 19 October).

Sponsored by the Clayton Hotel in south-west London this year, the unique award – which has been presented annually by London Irish and its partners for the past 17 years – recognises the contribution of rugby union broadcasters and journalists to the development of the game in this country.

Morgan came top in a nomination and adjudication process that involved the 12 clubs in the Gallagher Premiership, Premiership Rugby and the Rugby Football Union.

The award citation praised Morgan for his consistent commitment to coverage of the club game, in particular his ‘Inside Line’ series of articles which provide insightful coverage that is unavailable elsewhere.

Morgan, who is a graduate of Durham University and City University in London, joined The Telegraph in 2017.

Commenting on the hotel’s association with the award, Tom Doyle, General Manager of the Clayton Hotel, said, “The team at Clayton Hotel Chiswick are delighted to have such a close working partnership with our new neighbours London Irish Rugby Football Club.

“Clayton Hotel Chiswick is just a short walk from the fabulous Brentford Community Stadium, and the Hotel is the perfect place to meet, socialise and stay on match days.

“We look forward to giving all supporters a very warm welcome, both before and after games, and are pleased to be able to sponsor this prestigious award.”
