Benhard van Rensburg wore the widest of smiles at the full-time whistle on Saturday evening, as London Irish clinched a memorable win over Harlequins.

The South African centre, who was named man-of-the-match, produced arguably his best performance in an Irish shirt, as Declan Kidney’s side won 22-19 at the Stoop.

“It was an amazing result for us,” said van Rensburg.

“This will change the vibe in the squad.

“To get the win at the home of the Champions is an incredible feeling - now we have to push on.”

In a keenly-contested London derby, Irish came out on top, despite a late Quins charge.

“You know Quins are a team that will never give up,” said van Rensburg.

“When they made that break in the last minute, I’m sure there were a few hearts in mouths.

“We knew we needed to stand up to them - and we did, so all credit to the boys.”

He added: “We made it personal.

“We fronted up, our personalities came through in that performance - it was a really strong display and one we need to build on.”
