The London Irish Academy had a busy weekend with the U17s taking on Wasps on Saturday and the U16s travelling to take part in the Birmingham Festival on Sunday.

The U17s fixture was a hotly contested match with both sides showing plenty of promise. The young Exiles came out on top with a 26-24 victory.

Tries from Dan Ormand, George Davis and two from Finlay Brown secured the result alongside three conversions from Jonah Peppiatt.

Many of the U17s squad played up an age group, emphasising the impressive performance from the youngsters.

The U16s pitted themselves against a variety of Premiership academies in the Birmingham Festival. A chance to showcase their skills to the academy coaches, some of the travelling squad will be selected to take part in the annual Wellington Festival at the end of April.

“This weekend was an exciting opportunity for many players to represent London Irish. We don’t have too many occasions to field academy teams throughout the season, so there was plenty of excitement and anticipation form players and coaches alike” said Patrick O’Grady, academy manager.

“We are now looking forward to the U16 Wellington Festival next week and our final U17 fixture against Worcester after that.”
