London Irish’s Heineken Champions Cup pool stage fixtures have been confirmed.
Each competing Club in the 2022/23 edition of the tournament were made aware of their potential route to the Round of 16 upon the announcement of fixtures by European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) today.
Ongoing negotiations between EPCR and broadcasters in multiple markets mean exact dates, TV scheduling and kick-off times are yet to be fully determined.
Nonetheless, the Exiles now know they will begin their first Heineken Champions Cup venture in a decade with a home tie against Top 14 champions, Montpellier Hérault.
The Brentford Community Stadium will host its first ever Heineken Champions Cup fixture in Round 1 on the weekend of the 9th/10th/11th December 2022.
Montpellier took home their novel Top 14 crown having finished second in the 2021/22 campaign, yet went on to defeat Bordeaux Bègles and first-placed Castres Olympique in the play-offs.
Irish then continue their continental journey with a hotly-anticipated away trip to DHL Stormers of Cape Town in Round 2.
John Dobson’s side won the inaugural United Rugby Championship title last season after defeating fellow Champions Cup qualifiers Vodacom Bulls 18-13 at the DHL Stadium.
On the weekend of 16th/17th/18th December 2022, Irish travel to the scenic seafront arena that the South African outfit won their first ever league championship.
The west Londoners will welcome fellow Pool B side Stormers to the BCS in the new year on the weekend of the 13th/14th/15th January 2023 for Round 3 of Heineken Champions Cup action.
The return clash against the Gallic opponents has been pencilled in for the following weekend of the 20th/21st/22nd January 2023 at the GGL Stadium to conclude the pool stages.
Once the pool stages finish, the top eight teams of each pool will qualify for the Heineken Champions Cup Round of 16, with the ninth and 10th ranked Clubs from each pool dropping down to the EPCR Challenge Cup.
