‘Beat the Street’ is a 16-week intervention programme for people affected by homelessness in and around Spelthorne.
The programme Involves one hour of rugby each week, gym sessions and workshops around managing addictions, CV writing and interview skills, time management and cooking classes.
On Friday 14th June London Irish took a group up to Edinburgh to represent England in the 3 Nations Homeless International 3 Nations Cup. The London Irish team played fixtures against Worcester Warriors and 2 mixed Scotland teams before competing with Worcester to form the England team to take on Scotland. The game ended up in a 2-2 draw with the cup being shared by both countries.
At the end of the 16-week programme, a jobs fare will take place at Hazelwood where candidates will utilise their new skillset to impress local businesses with the objective of securing either paid or voluntary work.
London Irish Foundation CEO Andy Keast said: “The Foundation has been set up to help create initiatives and programmes like ‘Beat the Street’ where we can make a fundamental difference to the most vulnerable people in the community. We hope at the end of the programme to have helped our attendees improve their confidence to gain employment opportunities.”
