Dave Ellis joined London Irish as Defence Coach on 3rd August 2009.
Dave ranks among the most highly regarded defence coaches currently working in rugby. He has been defence coach to the French national team for ten years and most recently held a similar role at Brive and before that at Castres. He has signed a one year contract with the Exiles that will enable him to continue his role with France.
Yorkshire born Ellis has been involved with rugby from an early age. He played rugby league from junior through to professional level. At the end of his playing career he moved into coaching, initially in Australia. On his return to the United Kingdom he worked with Loughborough University before moving to France eventually coaching Super League club Paris St Germain.
His association with rugby union began with Racing Club de France, then Begles Bordeaux from where he was invited by Bernard Laporte to assist with the coaching of the French national team. He last work in the Guinness Premiership in 2005 with Gloucester.
At London Irish, Ellis works under Head Coach Toby Booth and alongside Attack coach Mike Catt.
