Summer signing Ben Meehan may have only just touched down in the UK but the Australian scrum-half has hit the ground running in training this week.

Meehan, 24, who has joined the Exiles from Super Rugby side Melbourne Rebels, is delighted to be to be part of Nick Kennedy’s set-up.

“I’m bowled over with how brilliant the training facilities are here at Hazelwood and everyone has been really welcoming,” said Meehan.

“The club has a family feel about it and I’m settling in well.”

Giving us an insight into his style of play, the four times capped Australia Under-20s player said: “I’ll be focussed on kicking well off both feet and exiting well at the breakdown as well as bringing a lot of energy to the team.

“In the build-up to my move over here, I’ve had a few skype calls with Nick Kennedy and he’s put a lot of faith in me and I just want to repay that faith with good performances for London Irish.”

Meehan is one of 11 new recruits at the club as Irish gear up for their return to the Aviva Premiership.

Excited at the prospect of playing Premiership Rugby, Meehan added: “I can’t wait to play in the Premiership with rugby at such a high standard with a number of world class players.

“I’m really looking forward to pulling on the green jersey and playing in front of our passionate supporters.”
