Fergus Mulchrone has been named Waltons Jewellers’ London Irish Player of the Month for November, the 30-year-old centre having been in fine form of late.

Mulchrone, who is closing in on 100 appearances for Irish, was the Exiles’ standout performer last month as the Exiles ran Wasps and Bath close in the Aviva Premiership.

“I’m pleased with how I’ve done since returning from injury and I’m happy with the amount of game time my body’s got through,” said the Mancunian.

“Our medical team and conditioner André Quinn were superb with me throughout my injury and the fact that I’ve played consistently for the last month or so, shows the injury is well and truly behind me.

“I will be a lot happier when we get some wins under our belts and I can see those wins coming from the way that we have performed against the likes of Wasps and Bath.”

Following this weekend’s European Rugby Challenge Cup clash at home to Stade Français, Irish travel to Worcester before hosting Newcastle Falcons on Saturday 30 December. Mulchrone says he’s up for the fight as he strives to help his side pick up valuable Aviva Premiership points.

“We have some crucial games coming up over the festive period and we’re looking forward to the challenge,” said the former Sale Sharks and Rotherham Titans midfielder.

“Despite where we are in the league, there is a great culture in and around the training ground which has been instilled by Nick Kennedy and his management team,” said Mulchrone.

“They expect each and every player to work extremely hard and leave nothing in the tank following the games. The coaches have been terrific for my game and I can see wins coming our way if we continue to do the things that Nick Kennedy expects of us.”

Exiles’ boss Kennedy is delighted with Mulchrone’s contribution to the team, saying: “Fergus’ attitude and desire since joining the club has been first class and I’m pleased with how he’s performed in recent weeks.

“His potent running, coupled with his strong defence are key aspects of his game and he’s a worthy recipient of the November Waltons Jewellers’ London Irish Player of the Month.

“His form since returning from injury has been very good and he’s getting better with each game.”

Chris Walton, owner of Waltons Jewellers, said:  “It’s great to see Fergus back in form following his injury and it’s clear to see why the London Irish coaches voted for him to win this month’s award.

“His performances in November were outstanding.”
