Early on a cold Wednesday morning the Hitz rugby boys made the trip from Southwark to The Stoop. On arrival and after warm up they split into groups for the mixed team event. The mixed team event encourages young people to play with team mates they may have never met thus hoping to produce confidence and understanding and therefore demonstrate these traits within their personal lives. The mixed event proved challenging but successful. Over the next hour they competed in several well contested games, with some great skills and teamwork on show.
Our very own Tomas O’Leary surprised the Hitz crowd and took time out to come down and lend his support to the day. Many of our young people are budding scrum halves and couldn’t believe they had the opportunity to chat Tomas. Tomas spent time giving some great tips and advice to them.
By the time the games finished it wasn’t about the score or who won, it was about how the game was played and the new friendships that were made.
“For the past few weeks there has been an extra buzz around our sessions, our sessions are always lively and upbeat but when we have an event like this coming up there is a little bit extra from all our young people. Everyone is already talking about next year, even now.” said London Irish Hitz project officer, Dave Christie
