Under 8 Teams Put on Impressive Performance at Community MatchDay Festival!

On Saturday 14th February the London Irish Community team hosted their third MatchDay Festival of the season with ten U8 teams competing for the Community MatchDay Trophy over at Bearwood College.

The fun started at 9am with the first set of pool games kicking off. Taking part in the fun style TAG Rugby tournament were the following rugby clubs; Aldershot and Fleet, Devizes, Havant RFC, Heathfield Hurricanes, Redingensians, Farnham North and Farnham South, Overton, Tadley and Wootten Bassett who all put in an impressive tag performance. After playing four games each both pools were very close with the winner of Pool A having to be decided on number of tries scored as both clubs were drawn on points. It was Havant that went through over Farnham North to face Overton who just beat Devizes by 1 point in Pool B! After a very exciting, nail biting final it was Havant that claimed the U8 MatchDay festival winners title after beating Overton 6 tries to 4.

All teams then made their way over to the Madjeski Stadium where they were all invited to a special presentation with London Irish resting players Eoghan Hickey and Richard Skuse. The guys posed for photographs with all teams, answered questions and signed autographs before everyone made their way in to the South Stand.

At half time U8 champions Havant RFC and Runners Up Overton RFC were delighted to be asked on to the pitch where Exiles player Dominic Shabbo presented them with their cup and medals.

Speaking about the day Community and PR Officer Zoe Bishop said “Today’s festival has been fantastic. The standard of tag rugby was very high making it a very exciting and competitive tournament all round. I’d like to thank all ten teams who took part putting their all in to every game! I hope the youngsters enjoyed their Premiership rugby experience and will come back and see us soon!”
