The U18 squad is made up from players in both the London Irish AASE scheme, run at St Pauls Catholic College, as well as players from the Gold EPDG group which is made up of players who attend other schools in the region and train on a weekly basis at Sunbury. The two groups will come together later in the year to represent London Irish Academy in the Premiership Rugby U18 League which will see them pit themselves against the other Southern Academies; Saracens, Harlequins, London Wasps, Bath, Bristol and Exeter.
The squad will travel to Harrow School on Friday to play in the RFU organised pre-season festival which will see the squad play three fixtures against the Newport Gwent Dragons, Exeter Chiefs and Harlequins.
Academy Manager, Billy Clark said "the purpose of the festival on Friday is to bring this group of players from varying backgrounds, schools and clubs together and allow them to try out some of the things we've been working on in pre-season. The guys have been training hard, with Pete, Dec and first team backs coach Richard Whiffin running session with them. There's a real buzz in the group, it's very early days, but we know we have a talented group of lads so the challenge for them is to deliver when it matters, which is when they pull on that London Irish shirt. Friday will offer us a great benchmark as to where this group is and what we need to work on ahead of the U18 league campaign later in the year."
