London Irish, who moved within a point of the Guinness Premiership summit at the weekend, have seen growing crowds at the Madejski Stadium since the season began. Almost 14,000 turned out to follow the Exiles when they beat Wasps 28-16 at their last home match in September.
The last time Irish played Leicester Tigers was in the Guinness Premiership final at Twickenham in May watched by over 80,000 fans and tickets for the rematch are selling fast which has prompted the club to open the North Stand of the stadium which is usually only opened for the club’s giant St Patrick’s Day parties.
London Irish Chief Executive Andy Martin said: “We are incredibly privileged to have such a fantastic and loyal group of supporters who, along with many other rugby fans, have come and enjoyed a day with us this season. With the team performing so well on the pitch and with the style of rugby they are playing, it is easy to see why people want to come and enjoy the match day experience at the Madejski. We are creating an experience off the pitch that rivals any sporting club in the world and we continue to be overwhelmed by the response we are getting from the public.”
