On Saturday 23 March, the London Irish community team hosted 58 teams across four tournaments designed for U7, U8, U9 and U10 age groups at the impressive Reddam House School.

The annual St Patrick’s Festival is renowned for drawing in teams from all over the country, with teams from Bournemouth, Wimborne and Melksham all travelling to take part in this year’s festival.

The U7 and U8 tournaments took into consideration the RFU core values as well as supportive rugby and pitch side behaviour of both coaches and players to determine ‘Fair Play Champions’.

Wimborne RFC were crowned Fair Play Champions of the U7 category and New Milton RFC were awarded the accolade in the U8 category.

In the U9's, two standout teams were Melksham RFC and London Irish Amateurs, with Melksham RFC being crowned Fair Play Champions.

In the U10’s, the accolade of Fair Play Champions went to Grasshoppers RFC.

“It was a fantastic day to show the aspirations of the young rugby players and the inspiration given to them by their dedicated coaches” said Hari McCormack, community manager.

“We all can’t wait to see how much the players have developed when they come back next year!”

The participants were treated to several London Irish players handing out medals, watching matches and having plenty of photos taken! Motu Matu’u, Theo Brophy Clews, Sebastian de Chaves and Fergus Mulchrone all made the short trip to Reddam House School to watch the tournaments unfold.

All age groups headed to the Madejski Stadium after the festival to watch London Irish take on Doncaster Knights in the Greene King IPA Championship, with some lucky teams chosen to take part in the guard of honour.

A special thanks must go to the Portsmouth University volunteers, Reddam House School and the Berkshire Young Match Officials.
