Steffon ArmitageThe way Steffon plays is characterised by his personality ' he is an enthusiast by nature, one that is hallmarked by enjoyment and a determination to do well. He started his rugby career in the Under 8s at Richmond RFC where his desire to be involved was ultimately to shape his decision to be a back row player. When his family moved to France he played for Nice before returning to Devon and Ivybridge Community College to become part of a very successful team. After school there was a brief spell with Brixham RFC before he joined the Saracens Academy. Two years with the North West London team confirmed his affinity for back row play and the role of flanker ' his low centre of gravity and stocky build combined with his competitiveness makes him a 'natural'. In his first season with London Irish he impressed with his aggression in broken field play, especially at rucks and mauls and as a ball carrier. His 19 appearances included making his debut in the Heineken Cup and scoring the first of many tries for the club. |
