<1r>Mike Catt has committed his future to London Irish by signing a two year contract that sees his primary role change from player to coach.
The 2003 Rugby World Cup winner's first formal coaching role will have him join Director of Rugby, Brian Smith in coaching the Exiles' talented backs. He will also continue to play.
Mike (35), who originally joined the Exiles in 2004, has played 60 games for the club and scored 66 points. He has also had a major influence on the playing style. His good form saw him being recalled to the England team for this year's RBS Six Nations Championship where he captained the national team in the matches against France and Wales.
'I've enjoyed my rugby at London Irish and am really looking forward to the change of role,' said Mike. 'There comes a time in every player's career where he has to look to the future. For me moving into coaching is a natural progression and I'm pleased to have the opportunity of doing so with London Irish. We've a very talented set of young backs with the potential to make a real impact at European and international level, it will be rewarding to play a part in helping them to get there.'
Commenting on Mike's new role the club's Director of Rugby, Brian Smith said: 'Mike's contribution to this club over the past three seasons has been enormous. He is a world class player who has shown that he has the skills to continue to compete at the highest international level. We're delighted that he has decided to stay as a player/coach where his experience and expertise will be invaluable in developing the talented backs we have.'
