Premiership Attendance Record Comes 'Home' Early

The record attendance for a Guinness Premiership club match has returned to London Irish three days ahead of its Saint Patrick's Party encounter with London Wasps on Sunday! Advance ticket sales passed the old record of 21,203* this morning.

Given that the available capacity of Madejski Stadium for Sunday's game is 23,500, there are just over 2,000 tickets left for sale. The club is urging supporters of both clubs intending to come to the game to book their tickets as soon as possible.

In regaining the record London Irish now holds seven of the top ten attendances at Premiership rugby matches in this country.

'We're delighted to re-gain the record,' said Anna Hinds, Sales Promotion Manager of London Irish. 'Over the past five years our Saint Patrick's Party fixture has built a reputation among rugby fans as a great afternoon's entertainment both on and off the pitch. This year the fixtures computer handed us a 'local derby' with London Wasps. With both clubs winning last weekend, the match has caught the imagination of both sets of fans.

'The entertainment starts at 11.30am and kick-off is at 2.00pm so we are urging everyone to come to the stadium as early as possible and avoid the risk of being delayed by traffic or transport problems,' Ms Hinds added.

*The previous attendance record was set at the Bristol v Bath match played on 27th December 2006. London Irish held the record prior to that with 20,840 for the Saint Patrick's match with Bath on 21st March 2004.
