BRIAN SMITH
ON PAUL HODGSON'S BAN
"It's very frustrating. The way this so-called court is set up means if you go in and appeal without new evidence there's a chance the fine is doubled. We weren't going to take that risk. We felt there was a gross miscarriage of justice."
"There was no penalty, no yellow card, he wasn't injured, and he had the ball so it wasn't late.
"We're frustrated but the bottom line is if we appealed without new evidence and put a solid case forward, they were going to whack us over the head with a double fine. I'm not sure if it's the best system."
ON EXILES' PROGRESS
"We want to be a play-off team. We knew as we set out there were going to be setbacks, that's just the price you pay. We're staying upbeat and we're very positive, we're only three steps into what's going to be a thirty-five step journey for us.
"There were two crucial decisions in the second half [against Bristol], poor errors of judgment, and that brought us unstuck.
"That's the game, it can be cruel at times, but if we can play the rugby we did in the first half for eighty minutes then I don't think there's a team in the competition that can go with us."
RICHIE REES
"We've looked at dominating their forward pack, especially with driving line-outs and things. In the first half last week we controlled it and we just didn't play in the second half. We should have won by 30 or 40 points.
"It's unfortunate that Paul Hodgson's banned and Ben Willis is injured, but it's good for myself in another way."
JAMES HUDSON
"I wasn't expecting to get the opportunity to start quite as quickly as I have done. I'm very pleased I've got the chance to start.
"Newcastle are a very dangerous team, they've got a number of players who can make things happen in the game. If we can stop them keeping the ball that's a big thing for us and it could lead to us getting into a position to win the game."
RIKI FLUTEY
"We've got a lot of options. We've got kicking and running options so it should be good.
"I really enjoy goal kicking but last week I didn't feel good at all. I was heavy-legged and I lost concentration, but those are the things I have to work on: pre-match preparation and focusing more."
