Dual International Joins Irish Academy

<1r>London Irish Academy have confirmed the the arrival of Dual International Barrie-Jon Mather. He joins Acting Academy Manager Jan Bonney, the pair will be hands on in the development of the London Irish Senior and Junior Academy players throughout Hampshire, Berkshire and Sunbury.

Barrie-Jon is a dual Rugby Union and Rugby League international and has been involved in the development of young Rugby League talent in Lancashire. His arrival at London Irish confirms the Club's commitment to developing home grown players such as Topsy Ojo, Delon Armitage, David Paice and Shane Geraghty.

"BJ (Barrie-Jon) has a great understanding of the games basics and that's what is important for our Academy players. He will be of great assistance to Jan Bonney as they work hard to develop our Academy players passing, running and tackling skills. It's a huge win for the young players in our Region", said Director of Rugby Brian Smith.

Barrie-Jon Mather said, "I'm delighted to be part of London Irish as the Club seeks to build on last seasons great efforts. The challenge ahead is exciting and we have plenty to do if we are to keep producing Premiership quality players. I'm looking forward to working with all of the young players in Hampshire, Berkshire and Sunbury".

Barrie-Jon represented England once in Rugby Union and played six tests for Great Britain Rugby League. He played Rugby Union with Sale and Rugby League with Wigan.

He is 33 years old and has a wife and two children. We hope you welcome them all into the London Irish family.
