London Irish were simply not good enough as they were dispatched 15-3 by Sale Sharks at the AJ Bell Stadium on Friday night.

First half tries by Tom Brady and David Seymour left the Exiles with work to do to get themselves back into the match in very tricky conditions in the North-West. However it wasn’t to be and defeat now leaves them 11th in the Aviva Premiership table.

Danny Cipriani kicked a second half penalty to make it 15-0 before Ian Humphreys kicked his sides only points of the evening off the kicking tee.
Sharks winger Tom Brady opened the scoring midway through the first half when he collected a Danny Cipriani kick that had a fortuitous bounce up over James O’Connor in the wet conditions. The fly half converted to make it 7-0.

Things got better for the hosts when their impressive back rower David Seymour was driven over for their second score to leave Brian Smith’s side a mountain to climb in the second half.

The wind was at the Exiles backs in the second stanza but they were unable to make the most of that advantage. Cipriani and Humphreys kicked a penalty goal each and Irish lost Chris Hala’ufia to the sin bin to complete a woeful evening for London Irish.

Exiles Director of Rugby Brian Smith said: “Sale played the conditions fairly well so fair play to them, but there was a crazy bounce on the cross field kick for their first try and seven points is always going to be a lot on a night like last night.”
