Leicester scored five tries to the Exiles three to ensure the five points and a home semi-final against Harlequins. Tom Croft, Ben Youngs, Mathew Tait, Vereniki Goneva and Toby Flood crossed for the Tigers and there were tries for Corbisiero on his final appearance for the club, as well as tries for Ojo and Yarde.
Irish started brightly and were ahead on three minutes through a Ian Humphreys penalty. The Exiles bright start was cancelled out by a Toby Flood penalty for the Tigers and then two scores in the space of four minutes. The tries came from the recently announced British and Irish Lions pair Tom Croft and Ben Youngs.
Irish held on until half time with some stern defence to see the sides go in at 13-3 at the break.
Irish started the second half in confident fashion and after Ian Humphreys found a mismatch and glided through the hosts defence only some last ditch defence saved the home side from conceding a try in the corner.
Irish were to rue this missed opportunity as first Mathew Tait crossed for the Tigers third try and then Vereniki Goneva dotted down for the bonus point score.
Some creativeness and outstanding execution from Shane Geraghty allowed the London Irish top try scorer, Topsy Ojo to score his 65th try for the Club to give Irish a glimmer of hope. This was however dashed when Toby Flood scythed through the Irish defence to score his sides fifth try.
The final 10 minutes belonged to the Exiles. They dominated possession and played some scintillating rugby. Marland Yarde saved the best try till last as his powerful weaving run saw him glide past three defenders before finishing off in the corner.
Today’s result ensures Irish finished the 2012/13 Aviva Premiership season in 9th place.
