Wooden Spoon Mascot Challenge

Wooden Spoon Mascot Challenge

The London Irish Community Team have been working in Partnership with the National Rugby Charity Wooden Spoon since the 2005-06 season. Interacting with 12 schools each academic year, the programme gives schools who wouldn’t normally have the chance to play tag rugby the opportunity to learn about the game. and consists ofthree active tag rugby sessions, followed by 2 classroom lessons which specifically focus on Key Stage 2 Maths and English using the medium of rugby to help the children learn.

This season New Town Primary School in Reading, are one of the schools’ to have been involved in the scheme. Community and PR Officer Zoe Mathieson led the 5 sessions and had a great time teaching the pupils the basics of tag rugby and taking them for a special English and Maths lesson.
